ANKARA, 26 April 2023 (IRCS) - Dr Pir Hossein Kolivand, President of the Iranian Red Crescent Society, received the Humanitarian Distinguished Service Medal from the President of Turkey.
According to the report issued by MPO's public relations and international affairs unit citing from IRCS' website, during a ceremony which was held in
Ankara on Tuesday, April 25, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan presented
medals to domestic and foreign teams that contributed to the search and rescue
efforts after the powerful Feb. 6 earthquakes hit southern Turkey, claiming the
lives of more than 50,000 people, according to Anadolu Agency website.
Dr Pir Hossein Kolivand, President of
the IRCS, was awarded this medal.
Following the deadly earthquake in
Turkey, the Iranian Red Crescent was the first Society sent relief and medical
teams as well aid workers to Turkey support the rescue operation in the
quake-affected regions.
The Iranian rescuers remained in
Turkey until the end of the rescue operation, after which they co-operated with
the Turkish forces in relief operations such as setting up emergency shelter
camps.
